Pittsburgh, PA (SpeculatingStocks) -LNKD (LinkedIn Corporation) - This was the big social media IPO of late May that everyone went crazy about. Right out of the gates, it traded way higher than the price set by the underwriters. LinkedIn has a 52-week high of $95.45 and traded as low as $77.45. It's pretty volatile for such a large company, which is now valued at around $8 billion. We expect the second half of the year and 2012 to be very hot for social media stocks, but just remember that timing is very important. LNKD will be buzzing on Twitter for weeks to come.
OCZ (OCZ Technology Group, Inc.) - We released OCZ as stock pick on April 27th. It struggled to break through the $8.30 price level and $8.38 price level. However, it is holding up in a bad market and we still believe that it is a very solid opportunity. Investors are keeping OCZ on their mind. Solid state hard drives (SSDs) are the future and OCZ is a leader in SSDs. OCZ is trading at a market cap of only around $371 million, which seems cheap.
TIN (Temple-Inland, Inc.) - Interesting play that just rejected a $3.38 billion hostile bid from International Paper. To reject that bid shows the company’s confidence in themselves. TIN is currently trading at a $2.28 billion market cap, so they turned down around a 50% premium buyout offer. TIN is at a valley in its chart and we could see it trade up from here.
CIGX (Star Scientific, Inc.) - This stock was hit and knocked down by a trader on Seeking Alpha with a short position on the stock. We believe that it will bounce right back up. CIGX has been uptrending solidly throughout the year and we would not be surprised to see it at a new 52-week high level soon.
VHC (VirnetX Holding Corp.) - We discussed this stock before in a Twitter stocks article. VHC holds some patents that may be essential for some of the 4G LTE security specifications laid out by 3GPP. The 4G standard is the next wave for telecommunications companies. It looks like VHC has been making out nicely, reaching $30.50 recently. It is now trading at $25.86, looks like a buying opportunity.
NPSP (NPS Pharmaceuticals, Inc.) - This opportunity has a very nice chart with higher highs and higher lows. NPSP is a specialty pharmaceutical company that is developing innovative therapeutics for rare gastrointestinal and endocrine disorders. The company has people buzzing about it too.
CLNE (Clean Energy Fuels Corp.) - This is a well-known natural gas, alternative fuel play. Keep your eye on this one, it could get a burst higher. About 17% of its outstanding shares are short. This is a large short-interest, which could lead to a major short squeeze in CLNE shares. CLNE is trading at a PE above 70, which has caught the shorts eyes among other indicators.
XTXI (Crosstex Energy, Inc.) - Another natural gas play trending on Twitter. Natural gas is getting attention again with crude oil at around $98 a barrel right now. XTXI has trended up from around the $6 level in its chart to around $11 now. Investors are looking to lock in on a natural gas play to take their portfolios higher. A Saudi prince recently commented that he feels that oil should be $70 - $80 a barrel because the US will look for alternatives to oil. Natural gas is a great alternative and the US has lots of natural gas, so we believe that he is very much correct.
XFN (Xfone, Inc.) - Small $23 million market cap telecommunications company in Texas. They just expanded their fiber network to Littlefield, Texas and just closed their first triple play customer. The company is funding the expansion of their fiber network using approximately $100 million in federal stimulus funding. XFN could become quite the strong growth play in the coming months and years. It is sparsely traded right now, but smart money is accumulating for the long haul.
AVNW (Aviat Networks, Inc.) - Interesting wireless tech company that uses digital microwave transmission systems for first/last mile access, middle mile/backhaul, and long distance trunking applications. AVNW is at a support level right now, waiting for its next catalyst.
