Pittsburgh, PA (SpeculatingStocks) - Trends gain critical force that gains them immense recognition. Trends are a strong force on the stock market and should always be watched closely, if not daily, then weekly. Trends go in and out quickly and different trends affect the market at different times. Investors recognize trends quickly and trade off the trend, hoping to realize the trend first, whether it be a technology, economic or political trend.

Our goal in this piece is to alert you to the trends that are having a heavy effect and ones that could have an effect in the short-term.

Popular Trends Affecting the Stock Market:

1) Google – No one really gave Google+ much of a chance at first going up against Facebook. Now, Google+ is steadily being integrated into everything that Google owns and smartly at that rate. YouTube.com is a valuable and strategic property for Google to utilize in its battle with Facebook. Google+ is beginning to gain traction and Google still has a lot of integration opportunities ahead. We have noticed that Google is taking away headlines that Facebook would have otherwise owned in the social media space. GOOG isn’t far off of its 52-week high. You think investors like what Google has going on with Google+ and the likelihood that they will hold onto their search crown? We think so.

2) Social Media – Twitter is hot and so is LinkedIn. Twitter is for news and opinions and LinkedIn is for professionals. Social media is not going anywhere. Social media stocks appear to be coming back after a lull in the action recently. Social media will replace older media slowly, but surely and these stocks will be winners.

3) Politics - #OWS (Occupy Wall Street) has been going strong and it has now spilled into #OccupyCongress. The news media talks about American politics 90% of the time now it seems and the election is still 11 months away. Don’t expect this trend to go anywhere. The political environment has a major effect on the stock market especially when uncertainty is involved.

4) Mobile – Smart phones and tablets are both considered mobile. Mobile is taking people away from their desktops and giving them a good many capabilities away from their powerhouse PCs. In the not too distant future, a lot of people will be paying with their smartphones and they may not even need to carry their wallet around anymore. Companies like StumbleUpon are reinventing themselves through mobile. It’s a space enhancing lives and a space companies are still figuring out, those that do could have major success.
