Pittsburgh, PA (SpeculatingStocks) - We have come across a stock that we believe could catch the attention of investors. The company is Stevia Corp. (STEV) and it is now trading at around 85 cents a share.

This stock could be lightning in a bottle with its focus on the economic development of stevia, a fast growing product in the alternative sweetener sector.

The stevia industry has heated up immensely. The US markets were recently opened up for Stevia. Within two years of the USA market opening for stevia, Nielsen-based retail consumption data indicated almost $1 billion of retail sales for the sector.

Market research group, Mintel, has said it expects sales of stevia sweetened products to top $2 billion in 2011. In 2010, stevia products were launched across thirty-five countries and in 38 categories. Zenith International estimates worldwide sales of stevia extract reached 3,500 tons in 2010 with an overall market value of $285 million and forecasts the global market for stevia will reach 11,000 tons by 2014.

Stevia is something that we believe you’ll be hearing about more and more. It is the new sweetener on the scene.  Stevia could deliver a crushing blow to the sugar industry.

Do a quick search for “stevia” on Wikipedia.org:

“As a sweetener and sugar substitute, stevia's taste has a slower onset and longer duration than that of sugar.”

“With its steviol glycoside extracts having up to 300 times the sweetness of sugar, stevia has garnered attention with the rise in demand for low-carbohydrate.”

Stevia sweetened soda is starting to go mainstream. It looks like stevia has a very bright future and could mean a bright future for STEV.
